"My legs are dangling off the edge
The bottom of the bottle is my only friend
I think I'll slit my wrist again
And I'm gone, gone, gone, gone
My legs are dangling off the edge
A stomach full of pills didn't work again
I put a bullet in my head and I'm gone, gone, gone, gone."
This person is extremely depressed; they drink a lot and have attempted suicide before to no avail, but now they're going to get it over with.
"Gone too far, yeah I'm gone again
It's gone on too long, I'll tell you how it ends.
I'm sitting on the edge with my 2 best friends—
One's a bottle of pills, and one's a bottle of gin.
I'm 20 stories up, yeah up at the top
I polish off this bottle, now it's pushing me off
Asphalt to me has never looked so soft
I bet my mama found my letter, now she's calling the cops..."
They wrote a suicide note to their parents and climbed to the top of a 20 story building, and are ready to kill themself. They brought the pills and alcohol with them for the last few minutes, and they're saying that "asphalt to me has never looked so soft," meaning that they've never wanted to jump more than now.
"I gotta take this opportunity before I miss it
Cause now I hear the sirens and they're off in the distance
Believe me when I tell you that I've been persistent
Cause I'm more scarred, more scarred than my wrist is."
Their mom called the police to save them and they hear the sirens and are preparing to jump. They're saying that they've tried to stay alive and get better, but they can't anymore, they don't want to live.
"I've been trying too long with too dull of a knife
But tonight I made sure that I sharpened it twice
I never bought a suit before in my life
But when you go to meet God, you know you wanna look nice."
They've attempted suicide many times and are now finally going to do it once and for all. They're preparing to meet God in heaven.
"So if I survive,
Then I'll see you tomorrow.
Yeah I'll see you tomorrow..."
I think this could be perceived as the way when someone is suicidal they're wary to tell people, so every time they say goodbye for someone, they're not sure if they'll survive the rest of the day.
The 2nd verse, I think, is someone watching the first person stand on the building and prepare to kill themself, and they're thinking about how so many people feel the same way, including young people.
