The interpretation of this song can be dependent on context. There are certain implied contexts for example by sheer virtue of where or when it's performed. If it's done in church, during a funeral, or at some other spiritual gathering, the interpretation generally becomes clear.

This song also has a very similar melody to "Danny Boy." One can easily be mistaken for the other, especially when played more with improvisation without STRICTLY sticking to the melody. I would therefore avoid playing it as a pure instrumental piece for spiritual applications. In the absence of lyrics, there is too much room for interpretation.
