The lines, "one day you'll look," contain the idea that this person to whom the artist speaks is at this time unaware of his intent to leave. It is not clear if the speaker of these lines will have been gone a long time before his departure is even noticed or if he is trying to gather the courage to leave. It could be akin to the Eagles' "Already Gone." When the speaker says "You'll see I was the one" it could mean that he thinks he was the right partner for this woman and she did not appreciate him. He feels undervalued and is unhappy and wants to end this cruel sentence. He gave his heart to a woman who did not want to marry him. He is afraid that she will be the one to end the relationship so he is considering ending it first.
