A "tommy gun" is a Thompson M1928A1 used by old 'gangsters' and the United States in WW2 (It was/is known as "Tommy Gun," the "Trench Broom," the "Trench Sweeper," the "Chicago Piano," the "Chicago Typewriter," and the "Chopper").
Back on topic: The song is pretty clear to me, they speak of the seven deadly sins of Christian belief (coincidently there are EIGHT deadly sins).
Lust - Sexual desire.
Gluttony - Over-indulgence (over consumption).
Greed - Self explanatory. Desire to posses more than one has.
Sloth - Laziness.
Wrath - Also known as anger. Tied with violence.
Envy - Wanting a trait or object someone else has.
Pride - Feeling worthy.
Apathy - Sorrow.
