It’s about being left for someone “better.” She left, and he hasn’t moved on, or can’t. Maybe she cheated, or maybe she left him before hand. Either way, she betrayed him. “And when did your eyes begin to look fake?” So now that she’s gone, everything she does she’s flaunting. So that the tiniest things that remind him of her, like her hair scattered in his belongings, feel like they’re screaming at him. Adding to all the clear things she’s doing without him, and because he hasn’t moved on, they’re “screaming infidelities.” And also, “I hope you’re as happy as you’re pretending.” That’s the line that breaks me. He still wants her to be as happy as she appears, and he still loves her. Even after betrayal, and heartbreak. That’s how I interpret the lyrics. Also, Ruston Kelly’s version (it had Chris in it) is beautiful.
